Speakers (Judges & Lecturers)

An important feature of the PAGB community is that people give their time to help Clubs, Federations and the PAGB as Speakers (Judges and Lecturers).

Speakers are recruited by Federations and are then listed in the PAGB REGISTER.

There are other Speakers who market their services to Clubs without being listed in the PAGB Register. They are not bound by the following standard terms and conditions and Clubs must negotiate at the time of booking.

Standard Terms

All listed Speakers have agreed to abide by standard terms and conditions for listing and for bookings. All these Speakers may charge expenses. In limited circumstances a listed Speaker may additionally charge a fee.

Expenses

As far as possible, expenses should be estimated and agreed at the time of booking. A list of categories for expenses is shown in the Bookings Terms and Conditions. Within those:

  • Effective April 2026, the rate for car travel is up to a maximum of 55p/mile. (Previously 45p/mile)
  • The amount for equipment depreciation (wear and tear) is up to a maximum of £15.
  • Note. The pro-rata running cost and depreciation for equipment used in on-line judging can be so small that judges may choose to waive the amount.

Fees

A fee or request for a donation may not be made for judging.

Some lectures are listed with a fee up to the maximum shown in the register. Otherwise a fee or request for a donation may not be made for a lecture.

Some organisations make lectures and workshops available for Clubs, where any fee may be partly or wholly covered by sponsorship.

Copyright Licence Fees

The copyright of a presentation or a handout is the speaker’s property. As any agreed usage of a recording or handout can vary widely, the PAGB cannot propose a range for a licence fee.

Lectures for Clubs are also available via the Recorded Lecture Service. Some of these require a licence fee to download.

PAGB Judges

The PAGB accredits Judges for its own events, and they are included in the PAGB register. There is a nomination and acceptance process for PAGB Judges. A record of events judged, and the names of referees are required.
